Director of Bioinformatics

Responsibilities

  • Design and manage the build-up of IT hardware, and set up stable relationships with national and international partners for high computing capabilities 

  • Lead the design, planning, and implementation of bioinformatic concepts and strategies across all projects. 

  • Manage and oversee all bioinformatics activities, ensuring they meet business needs and align with Exobiosphere’s mission. 

  • Develop and implement analytical pipelines to process, analyze, and visualize complex datasets generated from space-based high-throughput screening (HTS). 

  • Collect and integrate database available –omics data, and develop multi-level in silico models for complex biological processes. 

  • Work closely with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and beauty companies to understand data needs and provide insights into the most effective bioinformatics solutions. 

  • Provide leadership in computational biology, data integration, and biological data mining, ensuring that bioinformatics supports faster, more accurate decision-making for drug discovery. 

  • Develop and maintain collaborations with external stakeholders, including academic institutions, pharmaceutical companies, and contract research organizations (CROs). 

  • Identify and implement machine learning and AI tools to enhance data processing, predictive modeling, and drug target identification. 

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to the bioinformatics team, ensuring their continuous development and alignment with the company’s objectives. 

  • Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies in bioinformatics to keep Exobiosphere at the forefront of innovation. 

  • Ensure regulatory compliance and quality standards are met in all bioinformatics activities. 

  • Oversee the integration of bioinformatics tools into the overall business strategy to maximize the value of collected data and its contribution to the company’s revenue. 

Qualifications

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Systems Biology, or a related field. 

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in Bioinformatics, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or Senior role. 

  • Proven track record of implementing bioinformatics solutions in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or related industry. 

  • Extensive experience with bioinformatics tools, statistical software, data analysis, and computational biology. 

  • Experience in developing machine learning algorithms, data mining, and predictive models to analyze large-scale biological datasets. 

  • Familiarity with space biology or experience working on data in a microgravity context is a strong plus. 

  • Excellent project management and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and develop a team. 

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external stakeholders.
